Chromatics
Chromatic exercises will focus on the chromatic scale, and a number of variations throughout the horn. This section also breaks the chromatic scale into chromatic intervals: seconds and flat thirds.

Intervals
This section refers to diatonic intervals based on major, harmonic and melodic minor scales. Speed, accuracy, and control are developed most thoroughly playing intervals.

This section features many key and interesting exercises that might not be found in traditional technique books. You will find numerous jazz patterns that are critical for developing evenness.

Tone exercises will address basic tone color, breath building, embouchure stability, intonation, and articulation.

Featuring diatonic scales and related studies, students will be ‘cross-trained’ in a variety of methods while still attacking the problem of scales. Scales include major, harmonic minor, melodic minor, and the whole tone scale.

Arpeggios features triads in all inversions. This section covers major, minor, diminished, and augmented triads.

As an educator, Zinn’s resume includes Director of Jazz Studies at the California State University East Bay, former Director of Jazz Studies at Chabot College, Director of the award winning San Francisco Jazz Festival High School All Star Combo, faculty of the University of California at Berkeley, The California Jazz Conservatory, and The Brubeck Institute. Zinn’s private studio is home to multiple winners of full scholarships to the nation’s top Jazz College Programs, All Star Bands, and DownBeat Winners.
